Published Writing Piece #2 "Blache and Stella's Personal Illusions"

In the play A Streetcar Named Desire when Stella says she could not believe her sister Blanche and lives with her husband Stanley she is trying to make a choice. Either believer her sisters accusations of sexual assault on Stanley or belive her husband that nothing happened. She chooses the ladder to keep hold of her illusion rather than break it all down. She would much Rather keep up her illusion, live the lie she is living for stability and normality sake, then believe her sister even if she knows she is telling the truth. This is because she feels she would be nothing without Stanley that she would be lost, unable to support herself. So she rather cast out her own sister and refuse to believe her then burst the bubble that she lives in

This scenario can be compared to the current political world now and how many former and current government officials as high as the president have been found with many questionable documents and have been found to have committed wrong, sometimes illegal acts. “In total, roughly 20 classified files were recovered between the two locations, reports CBS, citing a federal law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.” (Cabral, Page 1) “In January 2022, the National Archives retrieved 15 boxes of documents, telling Justice Department officials they contained “a lot” of classified material. In August, FBI agents took more than 33 boxes and containers totaling 11,000 documents from Mar-a-Lago, including roughly 100 with classification markings found in a storage room and an office.” ( Associated Press, Page 1) As seen Top politicians from both sides have hid secret documents from the people but their respective side refuses to believe it.

Even though evidence from both sides can be seen, either of them fails to believe while the other side jumps at the opportunity to accuse them like Blanche with Stanley. But the people loyal to certain politicians don't believe it because if they did they could no longer support that political figure. They could no longer live with having them in power but since they feel they need them in power they ignore the evidence and live in an illusion to keep value to their beliefs. This human nature people have to want to live an illusion that fits their ideas better rather than believe the truth told to them can clearly be shown not only in Tennese Williams play but the world around us and the politicians we support.

In conclusion When Stella says “I couldn't go on believing her story and live with Stanley" She is making a choice. A choice between Illusion or a harsh reality and she chooses to live in her illusion to keep her shaky grasp on reality stable. She feels that by ignoring the truth she can have a normal life. This is similar to people who do not want to believe their favorite politician is hiding something from them. They do not want to change the image of the politician they love so they reject reality and turn once again to their own illusion to keep their beliefs in tact. Both would rather live in their own worlds clueless of the truth then face the harsh reality that what they know is all a lie.
